UC San Diego invites applications for an Assistant Fire Marshal to lead advanced fire and life-safety reviews for health care facilities, clinics and labs. Under the Lead DCFM, review construction documents, enforce CCR Titles 19/24, NFPA standards, and coordinate with local authorities to ensure hospital readiness.

This career role is based at Hillcrest with a demanding schedule and requires OSFM certifications and strong regulatory knowledge.

Qualifications

• Nine (9) years of experience in fire prevention, plan review and code enforcement in healthcare or institutional environments OR a relevant Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years.
• Experience in fire prevention within a public fire prevention bureau or private industry, with at least five years.
• Must be nominated by UC and approved by OSFM to hold DCFM authority within 6-12 months.
• OSFM Fire Inspector II credential and Fire Plans Examiner certification.
• Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and organizational abilities.

Responsabilités

• Conduct technical plan reviews of complex healthcare facility construction and fire protection systems.
• Direct and perform field inspections of new construction, modifications, and infrastructure updates.
• Plan and conduct hospital fire drills and deliver advanced fire prevention training.
• Inspect existing facilities for Title 19 compliance.
• Manage hospital fire drills across shifts and occupancies per standards.
• Act as DCFM on behalf of UCSD Health after OSFM approval.
