Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform a range of maintenance, repair, operation and cleaning tasks across hospital facilities and campus grounds.

The role requires reading mechanical and architectural drawings, basic repairs across carpentry, plumbing and equipment, and the ability to move heavy equipment. A strong focus on safety, teamwork and patient-centered service is essential.

Qualifications

• Ability to read mechanical and architectural drawings.
• Willingness to learn basic mechanical repairs, carpentry, plumbing, and equipment repairs.
• Interpersonal skills to communicate with Institute employees.
• Ability to move heavy equipment up to 60 lbs.
• Ability to use required tools.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Healthcare experience is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, operate and clean hospital facilities.
• Assist in decisions on repairs; report major problems.
• Clean grounds, sidewalks, parking areas, pick up litter.
• Perform minor repairs to equipment using tools.
• Perform carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, electrical work, masonry, drywall maintenance.
• Move furniture and assemble equipment.
• Respond to emergency problems and repairs.
• Maintain logs, perform rounds, maintain work orders and inspections.
• Serve on fire and emergency response teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
