Job summary

University Health is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to administer the daily operations of a service area, maintaining, calibrating, repairing and testing a broad range of medical devices and systems.

You will document complex repairs and calibration services, ensure compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies, and collaborate with clinical staff, management, nurses, physicians and outside vendors to safeguard patient safety and equipment reliability.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in biomedical engineering technology or related field or over twelve years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor degree in any related field is preferred.
  • Four years of experience in a full service biomedical section/department or company, with at least one year as a senior technician is required; Seven years of experience with three years as a senior technician is preferred.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.

  • Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission standards and other regulatory requirements.
  • Interacts with clinical staff, management, nurses and physicians, ancillary staff and outside vendors to safeguard patients and ensure equipment reliability.
  • Assists technicians and performs level 1 and 2 duties when requested.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Administers the daily operations of a specific service in an assigned area. Maintains, services, calibrates, adjusts, repairs, and tests all types of general medical equipment and systems for the University Health. Provides and documents complex repairs and calibration services on a broad range of patient care and support equipment. Must have a strong working knowledge of all aspects of medical equipment management including standards and regulations relating to The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory agencies. Must be able to interact with other department employees, clinical staff including management, nurses and physicians, ancillary staff and outside vendors. Complies with UH, departmental and section policies and procedures.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Associate degree in biomedical engineering technology or related field or over twelve years of relevant experience is required. Bachelor degree in any related field is preferred. Four years of experience in a full service biomedical section/department or company, with at least one year as a senior technician, is required; Seven years of experience with three years as a senior technician is preferred. Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.

FUNCTION/BEHAVIORS

Performs highly skilled work of high difficulty in the inspection, preventative maintenance, repair and safety testing of patient care medical devices including high-risk equipment. Recognizes immediate and potential problems in order to take appropriate action to safeguard patients from associated equipment and chemical hazards while adhering to requirements of AAMI, OSHA, HCFA, TJC and other local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Will be available to assist technicians and perform level 1 and 2 duties when requested. (E, 60%)
