Job summary

Qualifications

  • Experience or education in health information management and medical coding as outlined in the basic requirements.
  • Education options include an associate degree with relevant HIM coursework, or completion of an AHIMA/AAPC coding program.
  • Certification (AHIMA/AAPC) or equivalent is required for MRT (Coder) positions.

Responsibilities

  • Review health records to abstract required data and assign codes from ICD-CM, PCS, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Query clinical staff as needed under guidance for documentation improvement.
  • Use coding/abstracting software and EHR systems to record and transmit data.
  • Ensure audit findings are corrected and refiled; support both inpatient and outpatient records.
