Michigan Medicine seeks a Data Architect Lead (Data Scientist) to design and build the data infrastructure for the new BMC2 Heart Failure Registry, integrating heterogeneous EHR sources and applying FHIR-based workflows.

You will implement data modeling, ETL pipelines, and machine learning insights, working with a multidisciplinary team to advance population health research and care quality across Michigan.

Qualifications

• Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field or equivalent professional experience.
• 5-8 years of experience managing data from complex relational databases, preferably in healthcare.
• Expertise in extracting, transforming, and harmonizing EHR data using APIs with FHIR standards and other interoperability protocols.
• Familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, ICD/LOINC, REDCap, Epic/Clarity).
• Knowledge of HIPAA, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with Git-based version control workflows.
• Linux-based server environments.
• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication to bridge stakeholders.
• Balance long-term architecture with delivery-focused execution.
• Growth mindset to learn and apply new skills.

Responsabilités

• Designs and leads development of the data model and infrastructure, focusing on scalable, secure, and interoperable solutions.
• Designs advanced ETL workflows for extracting, transforming, and loading clinical data using FHIR protocols across heterogeneous EHR systems.
• Ensures seamless integration of new data sources with existing warehouse structures and optimizes data pipelines for performance.
• Establishes robust processes for data acquisition, validation, integration, and storage from multiple sites with data harmonization.
• Applies machine learning and predictive analytics to generate actionable insights for population health management.
• Plan, supervise, and coordinate assignments across projects.
• Review progress, evaluate results, and adjust procedures as needed.
• Exercise independent decision-making within responsibilities.
