Job summary

Ozaukee County is seeking a DHS Billing Specialist to perform specialized billing, accounts receivable, client accounts, and collection activities for Human Services programs. You will ensure accurate self-pay and third-party billing, issue client statements, apply payments, verify insurance eligibility, and maintain payer data in myEvolv.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in medical billing and coding, accounting, health information, business, or closely related field or medical billing/coding certification with relevant experience.
• 3–5 years of healthcare, behavioral health, or human services billing experience including AR, claims, payment posting, or collections.
• Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance, behavioral health, substance use disorder, or county human services billing is preferred.
• Experience working with an electronic health record and electronic claims clearinghouse is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle self-pay billing, client accounts, statements, and collections.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and process secondary/tertiary claims.
• Enter and apply payments in the EHR and monitor posting accuracy.
• Investigate denied or problematic claims and coordinate corrections with payers and staff.
• Maintain accurate client demographics, financial data, and payer information in the EHR.
• Support payer enrollment, credentialing, revalidation, and maintenance of provider information.
