Healthcare Assistant Laurel 2 Oncology

The closing date is 15 May 2025

An exciting opportunity has risen for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our friendly Oncology team on Laurel 2.

The Ward includes a 17 bedded inpatient area and the addition of the Acute Oncology Assessment Bay.

A flexible nature is required and pervious experience in Oncological care would also be desirable, be not essential.

Main duties of the job
  • Welcoming patients onto the unit in a professional manner, acting as the advocate at all times to ensure both privacy and dignity.
  • Clarifying patients details on arrival
  • Ensuring the smooth flow of clinical and administrative work, whilst supporting Practitioners and colleagues
  • Accurately entering data into the patient management systems and updating information as required.
  • Adhering to the requirements of the Data Protection Act, ensuring confidentiality of informationregarding staff and patients is maintained at all times.
  • Dealing with telephone and direct enquiries in a prompt and effective manner, ensuring the provisionof information and prioritisation of queries as appropriate.
  • Cleaning, monitoring and tidying equipment as directed and report any problems or malfunctions
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
  • Remaining up to date with mandatory training and completing any additional courses required for thisrole.
  • Understanding all responsibilities and adhering to all statutory requirements for Health and Safety,COSHH, PPE, fire safety, complaints and accident reporting.

Job responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and foster good working relationships with allmultidisciplinary teams, both internal and external.
  • Make use of electronic internal / external mail and Internet systems as appropriate and necessary.
  • Escalate any concerns or complaints or incidents that affect users of the unit in accordance withcomplaints, risk management, or human resources procedures.
  • Bring to the attention of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/ Co-ordinator any factors which may adverselyaffect patient care or service provision.
  • Report all serious incidents to the appropriate Manager / Director within 24 hours; these include NeverEvents and serious falls and complete datix incident forms in accordance with trust policy.
  • Taking observations, height, weight and vital signs on all patients.
  • Ensuring patients are comfortable throughout their visit to the unit, providing drinks and snacks.
  • Supporting patients with hygiene needs as required
  • Acting in caring and respectful manner at all times, towards patients/relatives/carers and staff
  • Communicating effectively with services users and staff.
  • Able to use computer software
  • Act as a chaperone when required
  • Ensure the unit is clean and tidy throughout the day.
  • Stock items are ready for staff use.
  • Being flexible to work in the clinic and treatment area.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Basic standard of education including Maths and English.
  • NVQ 2 in Care.
  • Care Certificate.
Experience
  • Experience of working in a patient care setting or customer facing environment.
  • Experience of working within a healthcare setting/nursing home.
  • Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant.
