Position Overview

Position Title: Health and Wellness Coordinator

Department: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

Supervisor: Health and Wellness Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Classification: Full‑Time, Salary

Position Summary

The Health and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Group Exercise Program and assisting with coordination of other health and wellness programming at the Kroc Center Hawaii. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, evaluating, scheduling, training, problem resolution, customer relations, and quality and safety assurance. The Coordinator demonstrates a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army through professional conduct and community representation.

Responsibilities
  • Direct supervision of the Group Exercise program: identify program needs; research new class formats; schedule and supervise instructors; coordinate class schedules; mentor and evaluate instructors; assess and grow member satisfaction and retention.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates for hiring and selection.
  • Assist the manager in supervision of Fitness Attendants and Personal Trainers to meet monthly fitness operating goals.
  • Mentor Health and Wellness staff and provide feedback to improve customer service outcomes.
  • Assist in planning revenue‑generating activities, including complimentary workouts, seminars, workshops, and fitness presentations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the fitness floor and locker rooms, conduct regular health and safety checks on equipment.
  • Assist members and guests, encouraging participation and relationship building to maximize retention.
  • Develop safe, professional, exciting and comprehensive programs to satisfy group exercise participants and sustain motivation.
  • Develop policies and procedures for group exercise and other retention‑based programming.
  • Lead and provide excellent customer service to members and guests, aligning with standards set by management and achieving targeted retention goals.
  • Respond to a strong member service focus, professionally addressing requests and inquiries for long‑term resolution.
  • Fill in for the Health and Wellness Manager when unavailable.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly team meetings.
  • Integrate members with the sales team, medical advisor, and personal physician as needed.
  • Conduct wellness lectures and outreach activities to build community awareness and participation.
  • Supervise certified fitness professionals and meet budgeted objectives within the Center.
  • Maintain current Group Fitness certification and audit classes to retain membership satisfaction.
  • Ensure adherence to Salvation Army Policies, Procedures and Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain regular, punctual work attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • One year of Group Exercise Instruction.
  • Two years of management or program coordination experience.
  • Group Exercise Certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or equivalent).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to acquire within 6 months.
  • Experience coaching/motivating individuals and groups with leadership skills.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related field.
  • Personal Training Certification (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or NASM).
Physical Demands

The position requires high energy, physical fitness, and endurance to complete workouts. Duties include lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting, prolonged standing and walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more than 75 pounds. Weekend and evening work may be required.

Communication Demands

The Coordinator communicates with co‑workers, clients, vendors, and uses written communication via telephone and technology. Interactions are conducted in a positive professional manner, respecting diverse backgrounds.

Work Environment

Work includes exposure to mechanical parts and occasional loud noise. Extended workdays, weekends, and occasional travel are expected. The Coordinator works one weekend day per week, opposite the Manager’s schedule.

Certificates & Licenses

Current CPR and AED certificates. Group Exercise Instructor Certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA). Valid driver’s license and insured transportation are required.

Clearances

Candidate must pass a criminal history information check. Convictions are evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis.
