Job summary

UC Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support patient care units with clerical tasks, communication, and chart handling. You will interact with patients, families and staff while maintaining privacy and accuracy in the hospital information system.

The role requires 1–2 years of customer service experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and basic MS Office skills; some positions offer BLS training during orientation.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; HUC education preferred.
  • 1–2 years of customer service experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication.
  • Computer skills with Word, Excel, Outlook and database management.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Completes yearly mandatory unit-specific education and safety training.
  • BLS certification or training during orientation if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receptionist and clerical/non-clinical tasks to support the patient care unit.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, visitors and staff while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Update the admitting office and patient activity in the hospital information system.
  • Coordinate with Environmental and Nutritional Services for appropriate activities.
  • Assist with chart preparation and filing for operating rooms and transfers.
