Summary
- JOB SUMMARY
- The Health Unit Coordinator, under the direction of the RN, demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the HUC role in the team delivery of patient care. Uses current technology to transcribe orders, maintain the integrity of the patient medical record, perform registration functions, and gathers/enters and credits patient charges. Assists with patient care activities/services of a technical nature, and assists with daily unit activities and order. Other duties may be assigned. All employees are required to adhere to safe work practices and take active participation in the AWAIR (A Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction) Program as requested. All employees shall actively support and participate in the Quality Assurance Program.

- Education: Satisfactory completion of Health Unit Coordinator course or equivalent previous on-the-job training.

- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Legible handwriting; knowledge of medical terminology; demonstrated organizational skill; display of proper telephone etiquette; ability to communicate with people in a tactful manner; ability to perform basic computer keyboarding with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- WRITING - Basic: Ability to write simple correspondence.
- SPEAKING - Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
