Banner Wyoming Medical Center is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator on our Medical Unit. This entry-level role supports administrative tasks and customer service to promote organized, efficient patient care.

You will liaise with physicians, nurses, patients and other departments to ensure smooth communications and operations. The position is full-time, Day Shift (6:00am–6:30pm) with 36 hours per week and four weekend shifts every four weeks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Approximately 1 year of medical clerical experience; hospital/physician setting preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient with medical terminology and general computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of office software and keyboarding skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receptionist/clerical duties to support operating efficiency and effective flow of information throughout the department.
  • Processes patient admissions, records bed assignments, and prints patient labels upon admission.
  • Maintains a complete patient record with admission, transfer, and discharge information; ensures reports are scanned or filed.
  • Coordinates patient appointments and procedures that may be required prior to timely discharge; processes discharges.
  • Maintains adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies and completes requisition forms.
  • Interacts with patients, families, physicians, unit staff, case managers, patient service staff and medical records staff.

Banner Wyoming Medical Center is seeking a new Health Unit Coordinator. This position is entry level and responsible for a variety of administrative support functions and customer service for an assigned patient care area which promote an organized, efficient delivery of care to patients. The position facilitates communication between physicians, nurses and patients, calls in consults and acts as a liaison with all other internal departments and external contacts. This Health Unit Coordinator on our Medical Unit, you can expect to join a tight-knit team that works tirelessly to support our fast-paced Nursing teams. Our Medical Unit is a great place to expand your skills and gain a strong foundation and knowledge. Our Medical Unit has 64 beds across two floors. You will see a variety of medical diagnosis with our patients outside of any specialty areas/diagnosis. This position is a Full-Time Day Shift position, working 3 12's for a total of 36 hours per week. Shift time would be 6:00am - 6:30pm. Must work 4 weekend shifts in a 4 week period. Banner Wyoming Medical Center is located in the heart of Casper, Wyoming. As the state’s largest inpatient facility, Wyoming Medical Center is known and highly regarded for its cardiac and stroke services. With 249 beds and a level 2 trauma centre, Wyoming Medical Center is proud to serve the entire state of Wyoming.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for a variety of administrative support functions and customer service for an assigned patient care area which promote an organized, efficient delivery of care to patients. The position facilitates communication between physicians, nurses and physicians, calls in Consults and acts as a liaison with all other internal departments and external contacts.

Core Functions
  • Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support overall operating efficiency and effective flow of communication and information throughout the department. Participates in the resolution of customer problems or collects necessary data and follows through to appropriate person for problem resolution.
  • Processes patient admissions, records bed assignments in system, makes face sheets and prints patient labels upon admission. Orders outside records from other facilities and Physician’s offices.
  • Maintains a complete patient record with admission, transfer, and discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms. Ensures that all reports and chart forms are scanned or filed into the patient’s record. Ensures that charting forms are labeled and accessible if they are needed. Maintains adequate supplies of frequently used, patient education materials. May be responsible for QC/validations.
  • Enters pending discharges into the system. Coordinates patient appointments for procedures and treatments that may be required prior to timely discharge. Processes patient discharges.
  • Maintains adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies and completes requisition forms when supplies need to be ordered. Reconciles supply order upon delivery.
  • Monitors and tracks the use and whereabouts of electronic equipment such as patient ID scanners and lap top computers. Ensures that all are accounted for and in working order.
  • This position works under local supervision and has responsibility for assigned unit only. Incumbents work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment with a strong focus on customer service. Interacts with other health unit secretaries and other staff at all levels throughout the facility. Customers are patients, families, physicians, unit staff, case managers, patient service staff and medical records staff. Interacts with a wide variety of external customers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Requires skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior experience in customer service.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy is required.
  • The position requires knowledge of commonly used office software and keyboarding skills.
  • Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
  • Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program and BLS certification is preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
