Job summary

Highlands-Cashiers Hospital, part of Mission Health and an operating division of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator. You will serve as the central communication hub, coordinating with patients, families, staff and physicians to ensure timely updates and smooth unit flow.

The role emphasizes accurate records, physician order entry, and safeguarding patient information while maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Courses in medical terminology preferred; comparable experience considered.
  • No experience required.
  • Typing or computer skills preferred.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Role Summary: Provides excellent customer service and service recovery. Responsible for effective and professional communication via telephone, patient call bells and face to face interactions with patients, families, visitors and staff. The Health Unit Coordinator is the hub of communication for the safety of the patient. Effectively multitasks which includes answering call lights, answering phones, maintains accurate computer skills, etc. Assists with unit projects.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Greeting and guiding patients and visitors with warmth and professionalism, offering updates, and ensuring they feel informed and supported
  • Maintaining patient records accurately, entering physician orders, and protecting patient information
  • Handling all communications between incoming calls and care team members promptly and clearly to keep the unit connected

What qualifications you will need:
  • Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent
  • Preferred Education: Courses in medical terminology preferred. Comparable experience and skills also considered.

Located on Highway 64 between the towns of Highlands and Cashiers, the hospital offers 24/7 emergency care, acute inpatient care, rehabilitation, as well as long-term care through Eckerd Living Center. Highlands-Cashiers Hospital has 24 beds for acute care services and 80 beds in the Eckerd Living Center.
