Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to plan and manage non-nursing functions on the assigned unit, ensuring smooth workflow, high productivity, and excellent patient-centered service. The role includes clerical/reception duties, scheduling support, and supply management, with a focus on teamwork and patient care.

Preferred candidates have health unit coordinator or medical secretary training.

Qualifications

• Experience or training in hospital or clinic settings as a health unit coordinator, medical secretary, or medical receptionist.
• Preferred candidates will have completed a health unit coordinator or medical secretary program.
• If no formal education, at least 1 year experience or training in a hospital/clinic setting as HUC/secretary/receptionist.

Job Description:

This position plans, organizes, and implements the non-nursing functions of assigned unit(s) to facilitate workflow, enhance unit productivity, and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff. Position promotes efficient unit function and indirect resident care. Performs clerical and reception duties; requisition supplies, equipment, and services as directed; assist with scheduling; may be assigned to observe telemetry monitor when indicated notifying patient’s caregiver of any changes; and other duties as assigned.
