Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to join our team. This role builds on Health Unit Assistant responsibilities, mentoring new HUAs, coordinating unit workflows, and supporting patient care with a focus on quality and safety.

You will collaborate with nursing, physicians, and ancillary staff, manage clerical tasks, monitor inventory, and help uphold documentation standards in the EHR, while maintaining confidentiality and a professional demeanor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• One year of experience as Health Unit Assistant or similar role in healthcare is required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates full competency in Health Unit Assistant duties.
• Liaisons between nursing, physicians, and ancillary departments to ensure effective communication and service delivery.
• Mentors newly hired HUAs, supporting onboarding and professional development.
• Acts as a departmental resource for unit procedures, workflows, and systems.
• Contributes to quality improvement and patient safety efforts within the unit.
• Supports unit-based meetings and governance councils as needed.
• Monitors inventory and orders unit supplies and forms.
• Performs clerical functions including patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and chart maintenance.
• Maintains patient records in the EHR, ensuring privacy and compliance.
• Assists in scheduling procedures and coordinating orders as needed.
• Prioritizes multiple requests in a fast-paced environment with accuracy.
• Handles confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Overview

Shift: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, for 80 hours per pay period.

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) position builds upon the foundational responsibilities of the Health Unit Assistant (HUA) role, serving as a key resource and mentor within the unit. The individual in this role supports operational excellence, promotes quality and safety initiatives, and fosters the development of new team members.

• Maintains and updates patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system; ensures compliance with documentation and privacy standards.
• May assist in scheduling patient procedures, coordinating physician orders, or tracking patient status updates.
• Prioritizes and coordinates multiple requests in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Handles confidential information with discretion andmaintains a professional demeanor at all times.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• One (1) year experience as a Health Unit Assistant or similar role within healthcarerequired.
