How can you make a difference in people’s lives?

As a Health Technician, you will provide a safe environment by monitoring participants for potential medical and mental health issues during withdrawal and crisis. Horizon Service, Inc. – Mission Street Recovery Station in San Jose, CA, is a sobering center and mental health triage supporting participants transported for public intoxication and/or mental health crises as alternatives to incarceration and hospitalization. Your role includes hourly monitoring of vitals, medication management, collaborating with medical/mental health providers, transporting participants, and making referrals as needed.

What will make you successful in this role?

• Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in California
• A.A. Degree or equivalent experience
• Availability to cover open shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays
• Experience with clients dealing with addiction and mental health issues
• Ability to work with diverse populations and co-occurring disorders
• Skill in handling and de-escalating emergencies
• Strong time management skills
• Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners (case managers, psychiatrists, social workers, etc.)
• Proficiency with computers, data entry, internet, Microsoft Word, and clear report writing

What else is required?

• Valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and a clean driving record
• Ability to drive a 10-passenger van
• Current CPR/First Aid certification
• Fingerprinting and drug testing at hire
• Up-to-date flu shot and COVID vaccination

Current shifts available:

• Health Tech - NOC Shift (Sunday and Monday off)
