Job description

Summary

This position is located in the Audiology Service at the Decatur VA Clinic in Decatur, IL. The duties involve working across all clinical and patient care areas related to Audiology. The health technician supports clinical programs in Audiology and should possess knowledge of ear anatomy, hearing aids, and hearing assistive technology.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited
  • Experience/Education: Completion of the Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program for Hearing Aid Specialists, or two years of post-high school coursework in relevant fields such as hearing science, anatomy, physiology, gerontology, psychology, or healthcare
  • Licensure: Current, unrestricted license or registration as a HIS in a state, territory, or D.C.
  • Board Certification: Active certification from NBC-HIS
  • Grade Determination: GS-6 level with one year of experience equivalent to GS-5, including hearing aid fittings, troubleshooting, patient care, otoscopy, pure tone testing, device processing, documentation, and patient education

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of ear anatomy, hearing aids, assistive technology, and manufacturer software; skills in documentation, patient education, problem-solving, and environment preparation; ability to provide triage and training; preferred experience with geriatric hearing aid fitting.

Duties

  • Collaborating with the audiology team for training programs
  • Handling calls, documentation, and managing supplies
  • Certifying and adjusting hearing aids as per audiologist’s plan
