Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a dedicated health education specialist to plan and run health promotion programs for clinics, schools, and community groups in Florida. You will support the Tobacco/SWAT Coordinator, teach youth empowerment, and help with outreach, recruitment, and documentation in HMS.

Daily in-office or field work is expected, with a focus on data collection, reporting, and ensuring confidentiality under Florida statutes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and conduct health promotion and public health education programs for clinics, schools, and community groups.
  • Support the Tobacco/SWAT Coordinator and participate in the SWAT Chapter.
  • Teach youth empowerment through skill-building, tobacco-prevention education, and advocacy training.
  • Transport youth to statewide and regional events when needed.
  • Back up the Regional Coordinator for the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
  • Support outreach planning, community engagement, participant recruitment, and program awareness.
  • Complete client follow-up documentation and maintain program records.
  • Enter 100% of EARS within one day after the pay period at least 97% of the time.
  • Record services in HMS immediately after providing them.
  • Participate in monthly conference calls and biannual statewide meetings.

Job description

  • Plan, implement, and conduct health promotion and public health education programs for clinics, schools, and community groups
  • Support the Tobacco/SWAT Coordinator and participate in the SWAT Chapter
  • Teach youth empowerment through skill-building, tobacco-prevention education, and advocacy training
  • Transport youth to statewide and regional events when needed
  • Back up the Regional Coordinator for the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program
  • Support outreach planning, community engagement, participant recruitment, and program awareness
  • Complete client follow-up documentation and maintain program records
  • Complete monthly BCCEDP reports and enter client registration and services in HMS
  • Participate in monthly conference calls and biannual statewide meetings
  • Conduct outreach and education for chronic disease prevention and associated risk factors
  • Increase screenings and referrals for diabetes prevention, diabetes management, asthma services, tobacco cessation, and breast and cervical programs
  • Support Diabetes Prevention Program activities, including community outreach, participant recruitment, and classes in person and virtually
  • Obtain Lifestyle Change Coach certification for the PreventT2 curriculum if required
  • Develop and deliver presentations to small groups
  • Participate in local, regional, and state meetings, training, and technical assistance calls
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and biannual program reports
  • Attend team and county health department staff meetings and participate in staff development
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with Florida Statutes and Department of Health policy
  • Enter 100% of EARS within one day after the pay period at least 97% of the time
  • Record services in HMS immediately after providing them
  • Perform other duties and initiatives as assigned by management

  • Ability to prepare reports, memoranda, pamphlets, curricula, lesson plans, and grant requests
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Preferred: bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in specified fields
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of required experience
  • Doctorate may substitute for required experience
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience may substitute year-for-year for required college education
  • Daily in-office or field work required
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing
  • Successful security background check and/or drug screening
  • Completion of Form I-9 and employment eligibility verification through E-Verify
  • Selective Service registration or exemption documentation for applicable male applicants
  • Ability to perform emergency duty before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days
