Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs invites an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to join our Cleveland, OH facility. The role leads proactive safety programs, ensures OSHA compliance, and advises site leadership on risk reduction.

A strong background in manufacturing safety, training delivery, and data analysis is essential. You will mentor supervisors, coordinate with unions, and drive continuous improvement through audits, investigations, and comprehensive training initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3–5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility safety program.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, promote teamwork, earn trust, and lead by example.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and support the Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Program.
  • Engage with employees at all levels to identify, address, and resolve health and safety concerns.
  • Support Cleveland-Cliffs Steel health and safety programs, protocols, and management systems.
  • Participate in the Joint Safety and Health program with local union and company leadership.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to line managers and supervisors on safety leadership.
  • Investigate, review, and respond to safety and health issues and suggestions.
  • Communicate injuries and incidents to operations leadership and Safety Manager as directed.
  • Lead injury and incident investigations including root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Support regulatory inspections as assigned.
  • Develop, conduct, and coordinate safety training for employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment for hazards and compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance related to safety initiatives and OSHA regulations.
  • Collect and trend safety data (injuries, near-misses, audits, etc.).
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule, including extended hours and weekends when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Cleveland‑Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Health & Safety Specialist at our Cleveland, Ohio facility. This role provides leadership and technical expertise to support a proactive, prevention‑based approach to occupational health and safety. The Health & Safety Specialist serves as an effective facilitator and trusted advisor to leadership and employees, ensuring strong safety performance, OSHA compliance, and continuous improvement across the facility.

Summary Of Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or 3–5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Experience working in a manufacturing facility
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field
  • Professional safety certification (CSP, CIH, ASP, or similar)
  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • OSHA 500 or OSHA 501 certification

Relocation assistance is not provided for this position.

The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $95,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
