Job summary

Rio Tinto’s Resolution Copper is seeking a Health & Safety Senior Advisor to drive the Health & Safety Performance Plan for a major underground project near Superior, AZ. You will implement programs, train staff, and monitor compliance, translating strategy into action. A Bachelor's in health and safety and 5–10 years of experience are required.

You will report to the H&S leadership, collaborate with regulators and stakeholders, and lead risk assessments to reduce incidents across operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety or a related discipline.
  • 5–10 years of health and safety experience in operational or major project environments.
  • Ability to work in surface and underground environments.
  • Experience leading and coaching teams to improve safety culture.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
  • Experience with MSHA, OSHA and related management system tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for data and reporting.

Responsibilities

As the Health & Safety- Senior Advisor for Resolution Copper, you will lead the delivery of components in our Health & Safety Performance Plan, providing strategic guidance and technical expertise across the function. This role is required to develop, implement, and monitor Health & Safety initiatives within Resolution Copper including managing the systems, processes, procedures and programs, ensuring best practice is embedded and aligned with critical risk management and compliance expectations.

Working closely with health & safety and operational leaders, as well as other internal and external stakeholders, you will translate strategy into action, enabling success, simplifying standards and fostering a culture across the site with our values of Care, Courage, and Curiosity at the heart. This is a high-impact role focused on capability development, continuous improvement, and supporting Resolution’s goal to be Best Operator.

Reporting to the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Business Partner, you will be

  • Implementing organizational health & safety (H&S) programs with a significant focus on Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Planning and implementing health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Implementing programs to train, coach and develop the workforce in site health and safety standards and practices.
  • Preparing studies and analyses of accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and contractors and making recommendations to mitigate causes and to avoid occurrences.
  • Communicating regularly with key stakeholders including site management, supervisors, operational employees, regulators and other external stakeholders regarding health and safety obligations, plans and performance improvement.
  • Facilitating and/or advising on risk assessment methods for health and safety.
  • Developing, implementing, and assisting in the facilitation of Emergency Response Plans.
  • Networking and collaborating with relevant external organizations and consultants to gain insights and opportunities for health and safety program improvements.
  • Contributing to and supporting the Rio Tinto health and safety initiatives, working within the globally standardized guidelines; liaising with senior leaders across both health and safety and the business units; promoting and leveraging innovative new ideas.
About You
  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety or another relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in roles with health and safety technical responsibilities, preferably in operational or major project environments with the ability to work in surface and underground environments.
  • Experienced and inclusive leader with a coaching mindset, motivating and supporting others to grow and succeed.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) & Health, Safety and Security Management System tools.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, to gather, assess, and synthesize key metrics, trends, and insights, delivering actionable reports to inform strategic decision‑making.
