Job summary

Albemarle is seeking a Health, Safety, and Environment Site Lead for its Baton Rouge Process Development Center. This onsite role provides leadership for the Lab Safety Program, interfacing with contributors, management and site leadership to drive continuous improvements in safety and compliance.

You will lead risk assessments, audits, investigations, and maintain critical HS&E documents and systems while ensuring regulatory adherence in Louisiana and at the federal level.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety, health or environmental field and related discipline.
• Experience managing Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance systems.
• 5+ years in a lab-focused HSE role within chemical/pharma/oil & gas, preferably R&D labs.
• Experience with regulatory aspects and best practices for laboratory work.
• Certified Safety Professional
• Experience facilitating Root Cause Analysis
• Curious, innovative and highly collaborative mindset
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple parallel requests

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply Albemarle's HS&E policies; regulatory reporting training and contractor management.
• Lead policy updates, creation, and implementation.
• Document and communicate HS&E expectations, outcomes and metrics.
• Lead the planning and execution of Risk Assessments and Laboratory Safety Audits.
• Lead the investigation of Research and Technology incidents and observations.
• Develop and exhibit knowledge of SAP, SharePoint and MS Office tools.
• Proficiency in Louisiana and US Federal Regulations.
• Collaborate with Site HS&E Manager with a Manufacturing focus.
• Lead and facilitate site HSE committees.

Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Health, Safety, and Environment Site Lead for Research and Technology. This position is onsite and involves providing comprehensive leadership for the Lab Safety Program at our Baton Rouge Site.

The role involves interfacing with individual contributors, managers, Site and Corporate HS&E and Site Leadership. This role will be a thought leader for Lab Safety continuous improvement, direct revision of site Lab Safety documents, lead Lab Safety Audits and walk-throughs, and coordinate resolution of observations and Audit findings. Excellent communication skills are important for the role.

This position reports to the Research and Technology Site Leader and is located at our Process Development Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

What You Will Do

• Develop and apply a strong technical knowledge of Albemarle's Policies and Procedures covering Health, Safety and Environment. Other functions may include Regulatory Reporting, Training and Contractor Management.
• Key contributor for policy updates, creation, and implementation
• Carefully document and communicate HS&E Expectations, Outcomes and Metrics.
• Lead the planning and execution of Risk Assessments and Laboratory Safety Audits
• Lead the investigation of Research and Technology Incidents and Observations
• Develop and exhibit a good working knowledge of internal documentation systems including but not limited to SAP, SharePoint, and other Microsoft Office tools
• Proficiency in State of Louisiana and US Federal Regulations
• Collaborate and Cooperate with Site HS&E Manager who has a Manufacturing focus
• Lead and facilitate site HSE committees

What You Bring

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Public Health or a related technical discipline
• Supervision and Maintenance of Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance Systems
• 5 years of experience in a Lab-focused HSE position in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical or Oil and Gas (Preferably Research and Development Laboratories)
• Experience with regulatory aspects and best practices of Laboratory Work
• Certified Safety Professional
• Experience and formal training in facilitating Root Cause Analysis
• A curious, innovative, and highly collaborative mindset
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and respond in a timely manner to multiple parallel requests

Preferred:

• Certified Industrial Hygienist
• Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Masters of Public Health or a related technical discipline
• 7+ years of experience in a Lab-focused HSE position in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical or Oil and Gas (Preferably Research and Development Laboratories)
• Certified Hazardous Material Manager
• Familiar with Chemistry Fundamentals, common techniques, and hazards in Research Labs
• Very familiar with SAP, SharePoint, and other Microsoft Office tools
