Job summary

Springfield Platteview Community Schools is seeking a Health Room Paraprofessional to support students and staff in the school health office. The role provides first aid, CPR, minor illness care and medication administration under the direction of the school nurse.

The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or GED and maintain current pediatric and adult CPR and First Aid certifications, with the ability to work independently as part of a team to ensure a safe, healthy school

Job Description

Qualifications:

Health Room Paraprofessionals will hold a High School Diploma or GED.

Length of Contract and Hours:

A Health Room Paraprofessional will work approximately 177 Days per calendar year and up to 37.5 hours per week.

Immediate Supervisor:

A Health Room Paraprofessional will report directly to the Building Principal and District Nurse.

General Job Description:

A Health Room Paraprofessional, provides first aid, CPR, minor illness care and medication administration for the school under the direction of the school nurse. This position requires a high level of responsibility of independence working as a team with the school nurse, staff and administrator. The Health Room Paraprofessional functions under the direction and the supervision of the licensed Registered School Nurse as “unlicensed assistive personnel”. The scope of practice, activities, and suits of the Health Room Paraprofessional are defined by and are subject to the Nurse Practice Act in the State of Nebraska.

Specific Job Functions:

1. Knows and complies with district policies, rules, and procedures.
2. Notifies Parents when students are sick.
3. Provide first aid to students and staff according to basic first aid procedures, utilizing proper techniques.
4. Provide medication to students according to district policy and in compliance with the Medication Administration Act, maintaining accurate documentation and accurate inventory counts of individual medications.

5 Perform or assist with procedures as delegated and supervised by the school nurse.

1. Prioritize the needs of students presenting at the health office.
2. Consult with the school nurse in determining appropriate care for a student. Promotes student attendance in the classroom by determining when return to the classroom is appropriate.
3. Familiarizes themselves with the needs of students with individualized health concerns.
4. Maintains and protects confidentiality and privacy of all persons served in the health room and refers requests for information to the school nurse.
5. Communicates effectively with parents and staff on matters of illness, accidents, and policies of Springfield Platteview Community Schools.
6. Promotes healthy habits in the school environments through proper hand washing, environmental decontamination and other necessary precautions.
7. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized health room as directed by the school nurse.
8. Assists the school nurse in ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and operable including inventory management.
9. Maintain Current certification in pediatric and adult CPR and First Aid: attend meetings and in-service programs to update job performance skills.
10. All other duties as assigned.
