Job summary

WSHA seeks a Policy Director, Legal Affairs to identify public policy opportunities or threats and develop legislative or regulatory responses.

You will engage WSHA members, prepare testimony, lead health care policy work with the state legislature and agencies, coordinate with lobbyists, and present at hearings.

The role requires a JD, WA bar preferred, and at least five years in public policy/advocacy within health care, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate required; WA Bar license preferred.
  • At least five years of professional public policy and/or advocacy experience in health care.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex law and regulations; communicate in plain English.
  • Strong relationship-building with agencies, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; able to present at hearings.

Responsibilities

  • Identify public policy opportunities or threats and craft legislative/regulatory responses.
  • Engage WSHA members and prepare them to testify.
  • Serve as lead staff on health care issues with the state legislature and agencies.
  • Coordinate with WSHA lobbyists and other partners.
  • Present information at legislative committees, hearings, and to boards.
  • Convene and chair WSHA work groups and represent WSHA externally.
