Job summary

Cardinal Health in Indianapolis is seeking a Health Physics professional to support the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment. You will develop, implement, and train on health physics programs within a manufacturing environment.

The role requires coordinating EH&S tasks, leading safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with NRC, EPA and other agencies. A related Bachelor's degree and 2–4 years in EHS or Radiation Safety are preferred, with opportunities for growth

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–4 years in EHS or Radiation Safety.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience handling radioactive material preferred.
  • Knowledge of EHS procedures and waste management preferred.
  • Experience in EH&S: hazard waste and manufacturing safety preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure regulatory compliance with NRC, DOT, EPA and local agencies.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly and monthly EH&S tasks.
  • Lead safety training and safety committee meetings.
  • Provide technical support to facility personnel on safety regs.
  • Review incident reports and drive corrective actions.
  • Perform facility audits to verify compliance.

What Health Physics contributes to Cardinal Health

Quality develops and implements quality policies, procedures, and processes to ensure products and services comply with regulatory standards and specifications.

Health Physics provides support to the manufacturing facility for the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation producing machines. This job family develops, deploys, implements, and trains on health physics and radiation safety policies, procedures, and programs. Health physics engages in licensing, packaging design, auditing, facility and equipment testing, emergency response, and other regulatory activities.

Shift/Schedule
  • Full Time / 40 hours
  • Day shift: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm
  • Candidate must be flexible to work different schedules based on business needs.
Responsibilities
  • Research regulatory issues to ensure compliance with appropriate local, state and federal regulatory agencies (NRC, DOT, EPA, etc.)
  • Coordinates and ensures compliance with daily, weekly and monthly EH&S and radiation safety tasks.
  • Identifies facility safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
  • Lead and facilitate safety committee meetings to engage employees in improving the safety culture.
  • Provides technical support to facility personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health and radioactive material regulations.
  • Review and lead injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Performs audits and inspects the facility to ensure compliance with company, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Participates and responds to investigations of environmental health incidents and emergencies and recommends appropriate corrective actions when needed.
  • Identifies possible solutions to a variety of technical problems and takes actions to resolve them.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the environmental health safety management program.
  • Develop the emergency response procedures and acts as the site’s emergency coordinator.
  • Identify potential safety hazards related to radioactive and non-radioactive materials and document these using the Cardinal Health risk assessment program.
  • Provides support and subject matter expertise for events (e.g., regulatory agency inquiries, natural disasters, business continuity, significant incidents, etc.).
  • Informs the Manager, RSO/EHS when situations require follow-up actions.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of experience, preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • Experience Handling Radioactive Material preferred
  • Knowledge of EHS procedures / Waste Management preferred
  • 2 or more years of professional experience in an EHS or Radiation Safety role, preferred
  • Experience in EH&S: Hazard Waste Compliance, laboratory safety and manufacturing safety, preferred
  • Familiarity with EHS Management Systems and their successful implementation, preferred

  • Understands day to day operations of radiation safety compliance
  • Works on projects of moderate scope and complexity
  • Identifies possible solutions to a variety of technical problems and takes action to resolve

  • Receives general guidance and may receive more detailed instruction on new projects
  • Work reviewed for sound reasoning and accuracy
Anticipated salary range:

$68,500 - $88,020
