Job summary

Leoforce is seeking a Mid Level Health Physics professional to join its radiation safety team in California. The role focuses on regulatory compliance, dose and effluent calculations, and developing health physics procedures.

You will support SRWPs, interact with inspectors, and ensure site-wide safety programs are in place. The ideal candidate holds a Health Physics degree (Masters preferred), 2–3 years of related experience, and the ability to travel to Valencia and Burbank locations as

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Health Physics (or related field) with radiological laboratory experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of Health Physics-related experience (BS level); Master’s with extensive experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel to Valencia and Burbank locations.
  • Strong working knowledge of radiation safety laws and regulations.
  • Experience with radiation survey instruments and dose calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct radiological safety tasks in compliance with federal/state regulations and company policies.
  • Provide radiological surveillance support for production activities under SRWPs.
  • Operate with regulatory agencies and inspectors.
  • Process laboratory wastewater and administer wastewater permit.
  • Collect, prepare, and assay radioactive waste for disposal; assist with receipt of radioactive materials.
  • Log receipt of returns and waste disposal; coordinate waste shipments.
  • Calculate and evaluate radiation doses for employees, visitors, or public.
  • Develop and review Health Physics procedures and safety programs.
  • Monitor CAL-OSHA, Industrial Hygiene, and related safety programs; participate in training and instrument calibration.

Job Details / Responsibilities
  • Conduct all assigned tasks in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and Company policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance of company work practices and policies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations
  • Provide radiological surveillance support for production activities covered by Special Radiological Work Permits (SRWPs)
  • Work and communicate with regulatory agencies and inspectors
  • Process laboratory wastewater and administer wastewater permit
  • Collect, prepare, package and assay radioactive waste for disposal
  • Assist with receipt of radioactive materials and radioactive returns
  • Log receipt of product returns and waste disposal in company’s radioactive materials tracking database
  • Assist with analyzing waste samples and coordinating waste disposal shipments
  • Calculate and evaluate internal and external radiation doses of employees, visitors or members of the public
  • Conduct radiological assessment of laboratory operations, making recommendations for improvement and reduction in radiation dose
  • Develop and review Health Physics and Safety Program procedures
  • Monitor and maintain Radiological Protection, CAL-OSHA, Industrial Hygiene, and other safety programs under the direction of the Radiation Safety Officer
  • Perform employee training
  • Repair, maintain and calibrate survey instruments as required
  • Conduct and maintain inventory and leak test of sealed sources
  • Develop and conduct radiation safety training for employees
  • Maintain/Review Health Physics records
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Health Physics (or related field) with radiological laboratory experience; Master’s degree in Health Physics or related subject preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in Health Physics-related activities (BS level); Master’s with extensive experience preferred
  • Ability to travel and work in Valencia and Burbank locations
  • Overall radiation protection program monitoring and management experience
  • Comprehensive working knowledge/understanding of radiation safety including related laws and regulations
  • Experience using Geiger, ion chamber, or other radiation control instruments and meters
  • Experience with analysis of radioactive samples using ion chamber and liquid scintillation equipment
  • Experience performing radiation safety surveys and other routine tasks
  • Experience performing radiation dose and effluent calculations and analyses
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong math and project management skills
  • Able to work independently as a self-starter
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and flexibility to adjust to a rapidly changing environment
