To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern the handling of routine administrative matters; manages student verbal participation and movement during whole‑class, small‑group, and seat‑work activities; frequently monitors the behavior of all students and intervenes promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
The teacher begins a lesson with a review of previous materials, introduces specific learning objectives, speaks clearly, and presents the lesson using concepts and language appropriate to the students; provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks students handle successfully, conducts lessons at a brisk pace, and summarizes main points at the end.

Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
