Job summary

LEARN Charter School Network is seeking a Health Office Aide to support the school health office across Chicago-area campuses. The role involves direct student health support, first aid, health records management, and collaboration with nurses and campus teams.

We require CNA or MA credentials, CPR/AED certification, and experience with health documentation, immunizations, and compliance tracking. Occasional coverage at other campuses may be needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and basic health support to students in accordance with established protocols, training, and scope of practice.
  • Receive students presenting with illness, injury, or other health concerns; identify needs and escalate to nursing assessment as required.
  • Document student health office visits and health records accurately in the system.
  • Review and maintain required immunization, physical exams, and other health documentation.
  • Monitor compliance with health requirements and follow up with parents/guardians on missing documentation.
  • Communicate health needs with parents/guardians and collaborate with nurses, teachers, and staff.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student health information.
  • Assist with health office organization, inventory, and emergency preparedness.
  • Occasionally cover other campuses within Chicago or Lake County as needed.

Founded in 2001, LEARN is a nationally recognized non-profit network of PreK-8th grade elementary charter schools that is creating measurable, transformational change in the lives of its students. We currently educate 4,100 students, a majority low-income, minority student population (88% and 98%, respectively) across 12 campuses, the majority of which are in Chicago, IL. LEARN also serves families in Waukegan and North Chicago IL including the families of service members located at the Great Lakes Naval Academy and Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling (JBAB) in Washington D.C. We are proud to be closing the achievement gap.What You’ll Do:The Health Office Aide supports the daily operations of the school health office in collaboration with the school nurse, providing direct support for students with routine, chronic, and emergent health needs. The role also supports student health compliance through the collection, review, documentation, tracking, and follow-up of required immunization and health records.The Health Office Aide will have a primary campus or regional assignment within the Chicago network and work collaboratively with the school nurse and campus team. Occasional coverage at other network campuses in Chicago and Lake County may be required based on staffing and student health needs.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide first aid and basic health support to students in accordance with established protocols, training, and scope of practice.Receive students presenting with illness, injury, or other health concerns; identify immediate needs and escalate concerns requiring nursing assessment or intervention.Support students with chronic or complex health needs and assist with health-related procedures as permitted by training, policy, and applicable regulations.Recognize urgent or emergent health concerns and initiate the appropriate nursing, administrative, emergency, or EMS response.Accurately document student health office visits, services, communications, and follow-up in the designated student information/health record system.Collect and review student health records for completeness and accurately maintain required immunization, physical examination, and other health documentation.Track students who are missing or non-compliant with health requirements, maintain accurate compliance records, and conduct timely follow-up with parents/guardians regarding missing, incomplete, or expiring documentation.Support school and network efforts to meet state and organizational student health requirements and established compliance deadlines.Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health needs and collaborate with nurses, administrators, teachers, and other school staff to support student health and safety.Maintain student privacy and confidentiality in accordance with applicable requirements and organizational policies.Maintain a safe, organized, clean, and appropriately stocked health office and participate in emergency preparedness, required training, and Health & Wellness initiatives.Provide occasional coverage at other Chicago or Lake County campuses based on staffing, emergency, or student health needs.You will need 3-5 years experience as a CNA or MACurrent Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or Medical Assistant (MA) credential/training required.Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.Healthcare, school, pediatric, community health, medical office, or similar experience strongly preferred.Ability to recognize and appropriately escalate urgent or emergent health concerns.Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately maintain health records, documentation, and compliance tracking.Strong communication, organization, computer, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work calmly and effectively with students, families, school staff, and healthcare professionals.Ability and willingness to travel between network campuses when occasional coverage is required.Physical RequirementsAbility to move throughout the school campus and respond promptly to student health needs and emergencies.
