Health Justice Fellow, Georgetown University Law Center & the Urban Institute

Georgetown University Law Center is seeking a Fellow in Health Justice, to help craft strategies for furthering racial equity in health and medical care. The Fellow will work as part of a team, with collaborators from Georgetown Law and the Urban Institute, as well as national leaders in

health policy and civil rights. Responsibilities will include writing for both policy-oriented and academic audiences, organizing public events and private meetings involving leaders in the health and civil-rights spheres, coordinating among this project's collaborators, and managing the project's website. Likely and potential written products will include blog posts and op-eds, issue briefs, and academic and professional articles. Challenges that this project will address include safeguarding the progress that's already been achieved, developing innovative legal remedies, achieving diversity among clinical caregivers, and empowering health care providers to address social determinants of disease.

This Fellowship offers opportunities for individual and collaborative research, writing, and advocacy, as well as networking within the health policy and civil rights communities. In addition, the Fellow in Health Justice will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and seminars with other academic and clinical Fellows at Georgetown Law. This Fellowship is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as part of a grant to the Urban Institute and Georgetown Law for development of innovative legal approaches to addressing racial inequities in health and medical care. The Fellow will work most closely withGregg Bloche (Carmack-Waterhouse Professor of Health Law, Policy, & Ethics), Yael Cannon (Professor & Director of the Health Justice Alliance Law Clinic), & Brian Smedley (Senior Fellow at the Urban Institute) but will collaborate with others at Georgetown, Urban, & elsewhere.

The Fellow will serve for one year, beginning in summer or early fall of 2025.

This position is hybrid.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • J.D. (or equivalent) required.
  • Excellent analytic, writing, speaking, organizational, and social skills essential.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in a related field (e.g. health law and policy, civil rights) preferred.
  • One year or more of professional experience in the public-interest or private sectors would be a plus.

Pay Range

The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $58,000- $63,000. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
