Job Description
We are seeking a creative and energetic attorney interested in working at the intersection of law, business, technology, and data. This role will join the Business Law & Compliance division of Allstate's Law and Regulation department to provide broad commercial counseling for Allstate's health insurance and related products, including Short-Term Medical, Medicare Supplement, and ancillary products. The attorney will serve as an internal subject matter expert with advanced business acumen, providing legal counsel for Allstate's Individual Health Insurance business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide real-time, business-focused legal advice on a broad range of issues, including product, marketing, and sales.
- Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including technology, data, and service contracts.
- Advise on emerging business issues, legal subjects, and risk management, focusing on commercial contracts, regulatory, privacy, and consumer protection matters.
- Communicate effectively with executive presence, both verbally and in writing.
- Support strategy execution, action planning, and communication with various business units and legal teams.
- Anticipate legal concerns and develop creative solutions in a dynamic environment.
- Conduct complex legal research, summarize findings concisely, and collaborate across departments to assess legal impacts and action plans.
- Understand interactions within regulated environments involving business, policy, compliance, legislative, and legal frameworks.
- Work effectively amid ambiguity and change within the legal and business landscape.
- Manage outside counsel and budgets effectively.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of federal and state health insurance regulations, especially concerning Medicare and Medicare supplement plans, and familiarity with healthcare regulations like the Affordable Care Act.
- Business acumen, including ability to quantify return on investments and contribute to business cases and risk assessments.
- Experience fostering a culture of constructive debate within virtual teams across multiple locations.

Education and Experience
- J.D. required, with active law license.
- Minimum of 5+ years legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department for a mid- to large-sized company.
Additional Experience
- Experience with short-term medical, Medicare supplement, accident, or life insurance, along with related commercial transactions and privacy concerns.
- Experience working within a parent company structure.
- Willingness to travel to Chicago, Illinois, as needed.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $95,700.00 - $170,925.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
