Job summary

The University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a Health Instructor to support the Health Scholars Academy program. This temporary, part-time role focuses on coordinating high school student health research, lesson plans, and activities while mentoring a college intern.

You will ensure safe, engaging classroom experiences, help plan curriculum, oversee group projects, and assist with test prep sessions, with a commitment to developing students’ academic and health skills.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of relevant work experience. Relevant education may substitute on a year for year basis.
• Two (2) years of STEM-health work experience.
• Experience working with various populations.
• Previous teaching experience.
• Graduate degree in STEM-health area (preferred).
• Five (5) or more years of STEM-health work experience (preferred).
• High school STEM teacher (preferred).
• Developing high school level student health-STEM research projects (preferred).
• Experience with middle school age to college age pathway programs (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and oversee development of research projects for high school student teams.
• Facilitate and oversee test prep sessions.
• Mentor and empower the college intern to grow professionally.
• Maintain an organized and clean classroom environment conducive to health learning.
• Foster a fun and safe classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Recognize and work through conflicts in caring ways, invites discussion on differences, and arranges for a third party to assist, if necessary.
• Ensure lab safety guidelines are adhered to in the classroom.

The Health Instructor is responsible for providing essential administrative and management support for the Health Scholars Academy program operations. Compensation Statement

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $21.63 - $29.18

Minimum: $21.63

Midpoint: $25.43

Maximum: $29.18
