Job summary

Houston City College is seeking an Instructional Faculty member to teach Health Information Technology courses, provide advising, and engage in ongoing professional development and community service. The role emphasizes student learning through varied instructional methods, technology integration, and use of current textbooks and materials.

Qualifications

• Requires an associate degree in health information or medical field.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred in health information or medical field.
• RHIT/RHIA certification required; AHIMA or AAPC certification required.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses with theory and clinical skills in Health Information Technology.
• Delivery may be classroom, lab, web-based, or field experiences.
• Demonstrate competence in teaching and use of technology in instruction.
• Develop and use syllabi per department guidelines; submit to chair.
• Plan and use diverse teaching methods and materials to meet objectives for students with different backgrounds and learning styles.
• Evaluate students and provide timely progress feedback; maintain accurate records (roll sheets, grade sheets).
• Review and select textbooks and learning materials; teach at varied times/locations as needed.
• Distribute completion certificates and advise students on subsequent courses and opportunities.
• Participate in curriculum development and revision to meet professional standards.
