Job summary

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS is hiring a Health Information Technician I (Agency 131) for the Joseph Harp Correctional Center/Medical unit. This full-time on-site position offers a fixed salary of 36,934.81, non-negotiable, with responsibilities including data abstraction, coding, and reporting from medical records.

Required RHIT eligibility or two years of medical records experience; strong confidentiality, and ability to work with computer systems. On-site work only.

Qualifications

• Eligible for RHIT with AHIMA or two years of medical records experience.
• Knowledge of federal/state laws and agency policies on records.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and reporting practices.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy for correction.
• Prepares statistical, case and other types of reports.
• Gathers data for admissions and discharges and ensures proper coding.
• Abstracts charts and responds to requests for patient information.
• Maintains security and confidentiality of patient records.
• Assists in developing medical records policies and procedures.
• Ensures compliance with laws, rules, and agency policies.
