Under general supervision and according to established procedures, assigns ICD and CPT/HCPCS codes for patients receiving emergency department services at UCSD Health System. Assigns all CPT/HCPCS and ICD codes based on appropriate documentation and Official Coding Guidelines which generate the appropriate APC level assignment through the encoder. Also responsible for assigning facility and professional ED E/M level, infusion/injection, and additional bedside procedure charging. Reviews and updates as appropriate all pertinent abstracting data. Responsible for data entry into electronic databases for use in assessing quality of patient care, outcome analysis, and financial management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust have coding knowledge or at least 2 years of experience in acute care setting with RHIT/RHIA/CCS or exam-eligible to test and credential within 6 months of hire.
Proven skill with computers and computer systems.
Coding experience with inpatient/outpatient surgery/emergency room records.
Epic & 3M 360 CAC.
Trauma level I.
Academic Facility Coding.
2 years Coding and charging experience with emergency room records performing facility and professional ED E/M leveling, injections/infusions.
CCS highly preferred.
Emergency Department facility charging experience.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $86,130 - $107,094 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $41.25 - $51.29
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
