Job summary

BayCare in Winter Haven is hiring a Senior Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist to maintain a complete and accurate electronic medical record. This on-site, full-time position supports timely access to records for patient care and coordinates with physicians.

Responsibilities include reviewing scanned documents, ensuring image quality and proper indexing, processing release of information requests and subpoenas under HIPAA guidelines, and assisting transcription.

Qualifications

• 1 year health information management or healthcare front desk experience, registrar, patient financial or medical records or graduation from an accredited HIT program.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a complete and accurate electronic medical record and ensure quality review.
• Ensure timely availability of the EMR for patient care.
• Review scanned documents for image quality and index accuracy within timeframe requirements.
• Analyze medical records for physician completion per Joint Commission standards.
• Handle Release of Information including subpoenas and billing per HIPAA guidelines.
• Interact with physicians daily to assist completion of records and support transcription duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Days/Shift: Monday - Friday / 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

The HIM Specialist Sr will work on-site on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist Sr is responsible for a complete and accurate quality electronic medical record.
• Understands that validation and completion of the quality review process ensures integrity and legality of the electronic medical record.
• Accountable for ensuring the timely availability of the electronic medical record for patient care.
• Reviews scanned documents for overall image quality and accuracy of indices assigned during the scanned process according to the timeframe requirements.
• Analyzes medical records for physician completion utilizing the Joint Commission standards.
• Performs all aspects of Release of Information including attending court trials and responding to Subpoenas and doing follow-up billing utilizing the HIPAA Guidelines.
• Daily interaction with assisting physicians with completion of their medical records. Assists Transcription section with clerical responsibilities and processing of reports. Performs other duties as assigned.
