Health Educator I MSH Adolescent Health Center FT Days
As an integral part of Mount Sinai Medical Centers health care team, the Health Educator I participates in the preparation and distribution of data to identify the communitys health needs in an effort to plan, design and implement programs that encourage healthy behavior and prevent disease.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the development and presentation of health education and promotion programs such as training workshops, conferences, in small groups as well as individual sessions.
- Documents activities, recording information such as the numbers of applications completed, presentations conducted, and persons assisted. Assists in assessing the impact of treatment compliance.
- Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations interested in public health care.
- Participates in the preparation and distribution of health education materials, including reports, bulletins, and visual aids such as films, videotapes, photographs, and posters.
- Assists in the development of operational plans and policies necessary to achieve health education objectives and services.
- Collaborates with health specialists and civic groups to determine community health needs and the availability of services, and to develop goals for meeting needs.
- Participates in the design and conduct of evaluations and diagnostic studies to assess the quality and performance of health education programs.
- Provides program information to the public conducting media campaigns, and/or maintaining program-related web sites.
- Performs other related duties.
Specific Duties Will Include
Community Engagement
- Peer services orchestration/management
- Consumer advisory group orchestration/management and using input from that group to inform & assist with program quality improvement
Program promotion & outreach
- Coordinate/organize tabling events (ex. HIV testing day, Pride events)
- Social media engagement
- Community program outreach/relationship development
Health Education
- Develop & implement health literacy verification evaluations for PI patients
- Develop educational materials on health Insurance, health literacy (navigating medical appts, scheduling appts, managing medication prescriptions…), HIV & STI risk reduction, and Contraception
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in health education/promotion, public health, or community health, Masters degree in Health Education preferred. Phlebotomy training/certification preferred.
- 0-1 years of experience.
- * Phlebotomy experience preferred depending on the department.
- Certification as a Certified Health Educator (CHES) from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. preferred.
Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $25.00 - $31.04 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
