Perform clinic office duties under the supervision of the Clinic Manager or Director of Family Health Services, dealing with patients. Tasks include assisting with examinations and treatments under the guidance of medical professionals such as the Chief Medical Officer, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Nurse.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Manage referrals and follow-up with patients via calls or letters.
- Maintain logs for glucose, hemoglobin testing, medication tracking, labs, and equipment maintenance.
- Secure dispensary and clinic areas when leaving.
- Handle pharmacy refill requests as directed.
- Assist with OB patient care, including counseling and documentation.
- Sterilize instruments and manage supply ordering and stock.
- Manage medical records, including explanation, follow-up, and filing.
- Assist patients with vital signs, history, and preparing for examinations.
- Administer vaccines, injections, and perform screenings as directed.
- Draw blood, prepare specimens, and manage lab communications.
- Answer phones, check patients in, and coordinate appointments.
- Translate for doctors and patients as needed.
- Ensure supplies are stocked and available in treatment rooms.
- Distribute paperwork, make copies, and coordinate with external medical offices.
- Maintain and update charts and manage dispensary operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies and Performance Expectations
- Accurately document patient information in EMR systems.
- Coordinate with care teams and adhere to professional standards, maintaining confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and a professional demeanor.
- Possess knowledge of CHDP, DHS, and managed care guidelines.
- Prepare reports and communicate effectively with clients and staff.
Prerequisite Qualifications
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid California driver’s license and insurance if using a personal vehicle for work.
- Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform job duties.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (preferred).
- Phlebotomy certification (preferred).
- CPR certification and current status.
- TB clearance.
- Class “B” or “C” California Driver’s License (if applicable).
- Personal vehicle with liability insurance (if applicable).
- Bilingual skills (preferred).
- At least one year of experience in a medical setting (preferred).
- Ability to develop computer skills for EMR use within 90 days of employment.
