Sign-on Bonus Opportunity

Position Overview

The Health Care Technician I provides direct patient care by managing the milieu on the unit through close observation and interaction with patients. Responsibilities include:

  1. Fostering a therapeutic environment and assisting with activities of daily living.
  2. Monitoring medical, emotional, behavioral, or social issues and reporting to the Registered Nurse.
  3. Assisting with initial patient intakes and interviews.
  4. Maintaining cleanliness and stock of supplies in patient areas.
  5. Transporting patients to off-campus medical appointments.

Positions are typically scheduled from 6:45 am to 7:15 pm on a two-week rotating 48/36 schedule.

About the Walter B. Jones Center

The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs in Greenville, NC: Woodside Treatment Center and Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. The center's mission is to provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization, and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, supporting ongoing community-based treatment and recovery. The center is accredited by the Joint Commission and offers specialized programs for all 100 NC counties, including inpatient treatment for adults and inpatient services for pregnant women with substance use disorders.

Qualifications
  • Proven basic knowledge of psychiatric, intellectual disabilities, medical, or related conditions.
  • Knowledge of nursing methods and techniques for caring for medical, surgical, and mentally ill patients.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional demeanor and good working relationships.
  • Ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques.

Applicants must meet the following educational and experience requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Conditions for Continued Employment

Listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation, or Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, as applicable. Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council, and North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, as applicable.

Qualified applicants must be selected from this posting's candidate pool and meet the following criteria:

  • Be a newly hired, permanent full-time or part-time employee working 30-40 hours per week (prorated for less than 40 hours).
