Responsibilities
The Health Care Technician I position provides direct patient care by managing the milieu on the unit through close observation and interaction with the patients. The Health Care Technician I provides support to the patients working toward the goals and objectives of their treatment. Job responsibilities include the following:
- Fostering a therapeutic environment and assist with activities of daily living.
- Assist in monitoring medical, emotional, behavioral or social problems and providing that information to the Registered Nurse.
- Assist the Registered Nurse with initial intakes/interviews with patients.
- Ensures patient areas are kept clean and supplies stocked.
- Transporting patients to medical appointments off campus.
Positions will be typically scheduled 6:45 am – 7:15 pm on a two-week rotating 48/36 schedule.
About The Walter B. Jones Center
The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs on site in Greenville, NC: (1) Woodside Treatment Center and (2) Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. The primary purpose and mission of the Walter B. Jones Center is "To provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health, substance use and other co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses for ongoing community based treatment and recovery". The Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and /. Two specialty programs are offered to all 100 NC Counties: (1) Inpatient Treatment for adults and (2) Inpatient Services for women in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters with substance use disorders.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

- Proven basic knowledge of a variety of psychiatric, intellectual disabilities, medical and/or other related conditions.
- Proven general knowledge of nursing methods and techniques in caring for medical, surgical and mentally ill patients.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professional and even-tempered demeanor and work relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

High School or General Education Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Condition for Continued Employment
As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As required by the Department of Public Safety, must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Counsel. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

- Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements: A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week). An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
- the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
- the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
- or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

NOTE: For temporary, contract or other supplemental staffing appointments: There are no paid leave, retirement or other benefits associated with these appointment types.
