Job summary

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Director I for the Health Care Programs Research Department in Chicago. This hybrid role leads discrete tasks within complex projects, overseeing schedule, budget, staff, and client relations, and coordinates data access and research design for health data initiatives.

The role emphasizes policy interpretation, quality control, and collaboration with federal and state clients.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in public health, health services research, or related field.
• 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in health research.
• Knowledge of federal regulations governing human subjects research (Common Rule, HIPAA).
• Strong analytic, writing, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to researchers seeking access to health data.
• Review data access requests and ensure completeness and policy alignment.
• Contribute to process improvements and quality assurance initiatives.
• Compile and interpret regulatory guidance to implement program policies.
• Mentor staff and provide feedback on performance.
• Engage in business development including authoring sections of proposals.
