The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions - the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health.
Under supervision, the 1635 Health Care Billing Clerk I reviews and evaluates medical claims to third-party payors, Medicare, and Medi-Cal for services provided to patients by the Department of Public Health.

Minimum Qualifications - Required
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of experience billing, claims processing and/or collecting healthcare service reimbursements or medical claims from Medi-Cal (Medicaid), Medicare, insurance, third-party payors, and individual payors in a hospital, healthcare agency, or healthcare billing organization.
Substitution: Completion of 15 semester units or 22 quarter units of medical billing related coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for six (6) months of qualifying experience.

Selection Procedures:
After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following.
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) (Weight: Qualifying): Candidates will be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application.
Assessment Component
Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a written multiple-choice exam.
Written Examination (Weight: 100%): Candidates must achieve a passing score on the written multiple-choice exam in order to continue in the selection process.
NOTE: Qualified applicants will receive an email notifying them of the examination's exact time and location.
Certification
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of List Scores.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 12 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
