Job summary

Huntsville Hospital Health System is seeking a Health Care Assistant to support assigned units under physician and clinical staff supervision. Responsibilities include technical patient care, vital signs, mobility assistance, transport, and discharge processes, along with clerical duties such as directing calls and managing patient charges.

Qualifications include HS/GED, and CNA course preferred; BCLS required by orientation.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical patient care services on the nursing unit including vital signs and activities of daily living.
• Assist staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical tasks.
• Transport patients and assist with discharge.
• Direct incoming calls, respond to patient calls, and enter patient charges in the computer system.
• Maintain patient charts, unit files and secretarial supply levels; ensure a safe and orderly environment.

Overview

Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff the Health Care Assistant(HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally assists staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge. Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files and secretarial supply levels and being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Qualifications

Education: HS/GED required.

Education preferred: Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred

License, Certification and/or Registration: BCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation.

Experience:Requires previous patient care and/or two years clerical expereience with successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient care aide positions will be considered.

Additional skills/abilities: Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
