Job summary

Huntsville Hospital Health System is seeking a Health Care Assistant to support the assigned unit under the direction of physicians and clinical staff. You will perform patient care tasks such as vital signs, activities of daily living, patient transport, and assist with discharge.

This role also provides clerical support, including handling patient calls, entering charges, maintaining charts and unit files, and helping maintain a safe, orderly environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• Education: HS/GED required.
• CNA training or Huntsville Hospital HCA course preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and discharge of patients.
• Assist staff, physicians and visitors with routine patient care activities and clerical tasks.
• Direct incoming calls, respond to patient calls, and maintain patient charts and unit files.
• Maintain a safe, orderly environment on the nursing unit and ensure supplies are stocked.

Overview

Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff the Health Care Assistant(HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally assists staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge. Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files and secretarial supply levels and being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Qualifications

Education: HS/GED required.

Education preferred: Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred

License, Certification and/or Registration: BCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation.

Experience:Requires previous patient care and/or two years clerical expereience with successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient care aide positions will be considered.

Additional skills/abilities: Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
