Job summary

Tillsonburg Retirement is hiring a Health Care Aide on a casual, on-site basis to support residents with daily living activities. You will follow care plans, monitor wellbeing, assist with dining and activities, and help with admissions and discharges as needed.

Qualified candidates have completed a PSW program, basic CPR/First Aid (preferred), strong empathy for seniors, and good communication and teamwork skills. Flexible hours are available, with a focus on compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized PSW program.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
• Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors.
• Good understanding of the nursing/health and wellness process.
• Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices, and procedures.
• Skills and abilities contribute to an organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
• Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) according to the care plan.
• Monitor residents’ well-being and report changes to the Health and Wellness Manager or designate and respond to medical emergencies.
• Provide general housekeeping, laundry, and recreational activities.
• Thoroughly document Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
• Ensure the health and safety of all individuals within the home by following procedures and protocols.
• Deal courteously with team members, residents, families, and visitors.
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident information including medication.
• Provide emergency first aid/care until appropriate medical care is available.
• Display spontaneity and ability to positively influence the moment.
• Present a positive approach and avoid controlling language and actions.
• Assist with dining service.
• Assist with resident admissions and discharges when required.
• Complete medication administration training and assist with administration of medication.
• Any other tasks as assigned

The Health Care Aide reports to the Health and Wellness Manager or designate and provides residents with physical and personal care needs to a high-quality standard and with sensitivity. Additionally, the Health Care Aide demonstrates commitment to resident safety by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

Wage Rate

The starting wage rate is $18.31/hour.
