Job summary

YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Health and Wellbeing Program Director at the Mel Korum Family YMCA in Puyallup, WA. You will lead the Health and Well-being Department, guiding staff, programs, and resources to deliver high-quality experiences for members, with a focus on Active Older Adults (AOA) programming.

Ideal candidates will have experience with wellness programs for AOAs, fitness coaching, personal training, and leading group exercise classes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or two years of related knowledge and experience that includes supervision, fiscal management, program development, staff and volunteer development.
  • Knowledge of current health and well-being safety and program standards; latest industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate health and well-being programs, activities, and events.
  • Create and schedule health and well-being classes and activities.
  • Establish new program activities and expand programs to meet community needs.
  • Coordinate facilities and equipment for activities and events.
  • Instruct classes in a safe, inclusive environment for all cultures and fitness levels.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and leading staff and volunteers; review staff performance.
  • Support development and implementation of volunteer training programs.
  • Schedule shifts, manage time-off, and approve time cards.
  • Track and report volunteer time; ensure training is funded and staff certifications are current.

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is hiring a Health and Wellbeing Program Director at our Mel Korum Family YMCA location.

As the Health and Well-being Program Director, you will provide leadership and oversight for the Health and Well-being Department, ensuring high-quality programs and meaningful experiences for our members. This role oversees staff, programs, and resources to deliver exceptional programming that positively impacts our community.

We are seeking an individual who has experience with wellness programs that are designed for Active Older Adults (AOA). The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is proud to offer a wide variety of fitness classes, specialized programs, and wellness workshops that are designed to help active older adults stay healthy, connected, and engaged.

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to support AOA Programming. Individuals with experience in fitness coaching, personal training, and leading group exercise classes are also encouraged to apply.

Compensation: $23.70 to $29.91 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
  • Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or two years of related knowledge and experience that includes supervision, fiscal management, program development, staff and volunteer development (preferred).
  • Knowledge of current health and well-being safety and program standards, the latest trends in the industry, and the ability to articulate and incorporate them.
  • Knowledge of and experience in planning, organizing, and implementing age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinion, and perceptions.
  • YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent, CPR for the Professional, AED First Aid, and Oxygen certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Essential Functions:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate programs, activities, and events.
  • Create and schedule health and well-being classes and activities.
  • Establish new program activities and expand programs to meet the needs of the community in accordance with the Association’s strategic and operating plans.
  • Coordinate the use of facilities and needed equipment for program activities and events.
  • Instruct classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all cultures, skills, and fitness levels
  • Assist in Recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and leading staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Work in collaboration with senior management to review and evaluate staff performance.
  • Support development and implementation of program-specific volunteer training program.
  • Schedule shifts, arrange shift coverage, process time off request requests, review, approve, and submit time cards.
  • Track, record and report volunteer time appropriately.
  • Ensure that all mandatory training is scheduled and funded.
  • Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.
