Qualifications

• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
• Head coach must have substantial knowledge of technical aspects of the sport and stay current with new theories.
• Head coach must model appropriate behavior for student athletes through instruction and actions.

Responsibilities

• Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques taught by staff.
• Trains and informs staff, encourages professional growth by clinic attendance when policy permits.
• Delegates duties, supervises implementation and evaluates assistants.
• Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
• Performs duties as assigned by the athletic director/principal.
• Assist athletic director in scheduling, transportation and requirements for events.
• Prepare for events, coordinate facilities and ensure compliance with schedules.
• Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning examinations and eligibility.
• Safeguard equipment and facilities; oversee inventory and maintenance.
• Advise on policy changes and communicate with principal and support staff.
• Mentor student athletes to promote character traits and provide guidance on academics.
