Job summary

Westover School in Middlebury, CT is seeking a part-time Head Track Coach (Running Events) for the Spring 2027 season, beginning in March and running through May. The role provides leadership, instruction, and oversight for our new track program, focused on sprints, middle‑distance, long‑distance, and relays.

The coach will develop practices using campus spaces and nearby facilities, supervise student‑athletes, coordinate meets with the Athletic Director, and cultivate a positive team culture

Qualifications

• Previous coaching experience in track or related area.
• Strong knowledge of training principles for sprint, middle-, and long-distance events.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and support student-athletes in a positive environment.
• Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
• Connecticut driver’s license endorsement to transport student-athletes is a plus.
• Successful completion of required background checks and references.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of Westover’s running-focused track program, including practice planning and competition operations.
• Develop safe, effective training for sprint, middle-distance, long-distance, and relay athletes.
• Teach running mechanics, conditioning, pacing, and race strategy.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, travel, and events.
• Collaborate with the Athletic Director on meet scheduling and facility use.
