Job Description
JOB TITLE: Head Coach
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director/Principal
SUPERVISES: Assistant coaches and athletes in the program
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To provide each athlete an opportunity to participate in athletics and develop physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, knowledge and understanding of the sport and principles of fair play.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Determine athletic eligibility per Athletic Director request.
- Maintain inventory control of all assigned equipment.
- Supervise and instruct athletes during practice, competition, in locker rooms, and on activity buses.
- Become knowledgeable of the fundamentals and rules of the sport being coached.
- Supervise the care and treatment of athletic injuries.
- Keep parents, students, faculty and local media informed.
- Attend District meetings and clinics.
- Keep updated by reading current literature and/or attending clinics when deemed appropriate.
- Maintain all equipment used in assigned sport according to health and safety standards.
- Recommend, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches.
- Carry out coaching duties in harmony with all school, athletic association and conference policies.
- Build and submit an annual budget.
- Help maintain and secure all facilities (gym, locker rooms, training and equipment rooms including doors and gates, etc.) as applicable.
- Conduct yourself in an honorable, professional manner.
- Conduct an annual parent night in which goals, rules, etc. are communicated to parents or, with administrative approval, utilize an appropriate written communication. (Team Handbook)
- Confer with parents, teachers, and the Principal as needed regarding an athlete's behavior and academic performance.
- Serve as a positive role model for the athletes.
- Teach Pursuing Victory With Honor lifestyle issues ranging from dehydration to tobacco use.
- Ensure all District and school athletic codes are complied with. Report violators to the appropriate administrator.
- Be certified in CPR and complete the new NFHS fundamentals of coaching course.
- Perform other tasks relative to the program as assigned by the administration.
