Job summary

Vaughn College in New York seeks a part-time tennis coach to assist in organizing and administering a co-ed tennis program. The coach will teach all aspects of tennis, schedule practices and matches, and ensure student-athlete health and safety in alignment with USCAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching all aspects of tennis while exhibiting thorough knowledge of the sport, coaching strategies, and player development. Host a minimum of 2 practice per week.
  • Adhere to the USTA, USCAA rules and regulations.
  • Work within the framework of the Department of Athletics administration and coaches.
  • Schedule at least 4 competitive meets per season in consultation with the Assistant Director of Athletics; membership in a NYC-based recreation league is an agreeable alternative. Coordinate logistics for games including courts, officials, trainers, registration, transportation, and food.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, administration, staff and alumni.

Description
Position purpose:

The tennis coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for assisting in the organization and administration of a co-ed tennis program in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by Vaughn College and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

The head coach must have a commitment to developing a tennis program, while maintaining an emphasis on the academic success of the student-athlete. The tennis coach will be expected to ensure the program promotes the health, safety and welfare of the student-athlete.

Education and/or Experience Requirements

Professional Skills

Candidate must have great communication, strong writing, and verbal skills, and must be team oriented. Computer software skills are vital for this position. Examples include, Microsoft word, Microsoft excel.

Reasoning Ability

Must meet deadlines set by membership associations for all athletic information and player nominations.

Work environment and physical functions

This position is expected to travel to both games and practices. Generally, an employee needs to be able to stand for long periods of time. The employee must be eligible to drive the college’s 15 passenger van.

Compensation

This position is part-time during both the fall and spring semesters. The compensation for this position is a stipend of $8,000.
