Job summary

YMCA in Sacramento is seeking a Head Teacher to support Preschool/School Age programs under supervision. The role focuses on administration management, program content, staff leadership, and community relations, ensuring compliance with licensing and safety standards.

The position requires a 30-hour workweek with ~6-hour daily shifts. Some evenings or weekends may be needed for staff meetings or events, and shifts may vary seasonally to meet program needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of college.
• Actively pursuing a college degree is preferred.
• Minimum 12 college credits in related fields accepted by licensing.
• TB clearance is required.
• Work-related physical clearance is required.
• Current Pediatric First Aid and Community CPR certification is required.
• Fingerprint/Child Abuse Index clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• In the absence of the Preschool/School Age Supervisor, act as supervisor of program and site personnel and ensure YMCA policies are followed.
• Oversee daily open/close of the center in collaboration with the Site.
• Complete administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Site Director.
• Maintain up-to-date written records (sign in/out) and child files as required.
• Maintain enrollment and manage waiting lists when full.
• Train and lead staff in emergency procedures per YMCA standards.
• Serve as liaison between Site Director and staff.
• Lead ongoing staff training and development.
• Interact daily with parents to promote a positive YMCA image.
• Ensure licensing standards are met or exceeded at all times.
• Plan and implement Preschool/Afterschool activities daily.
• Maintain a clean, attractive, and orderly environment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Overview

Under the supervision and guidance of the Preschool/School Age Supervisor, the Head Teacher is responsible for assisting in management of assigned site in the following areas: Administration Management, Program Content Management, Staff Team Management, and Community Relations. Accountability includes assisting in program quality management, program safety, staff relations, staff recognition, and training. The Head Teacher will work with other site staff in developing and enriching childcare activities.

Must be available to work a regular schedule of 30 hours per week, with shifts consisting of approximately 6 hours per day. The regular schedule may vary based on department needs. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for staff meetings, trainings, or special events. Schedule may change seasonally depending on program needs.

• Maintain clean, attractive and orderly environment.
• All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent plus 2 years of college.
• Possess or be actively working towards a college degree.
• At least two years of work experience with a comparable age group.
• 12 Units of college credits in related fields accepted by licensing.
• TB Clearance.
• Clearance of work related physical.
• Current certification in Pediatric First Aid and Community CPR.
• Fingerprint/Child Abuse Index clearance.

Posted Salary Range

USD $19.00 - USD $21.00 /Hr.
