Job Description

Job Title: Head Teacher (SACC)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: SACC

Reports to: Childcare Coordinator

Start Date: August 2025

Position Summary

Under supervision, the Head Teacher manages classroom operations and provides high-quality recreational activities.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise and implement classroom activities, ensuring safety and using positive discipline techniques.
  • Promote inclusivity and anti-racism, fostering a respectful and brave culture.
  • Create and document developmentally appropriate curricula, submit reports.
  • Plan and document programs per state guidelines.
  • Communicate with families and collaborate with staff to meet children's needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings and supervision.
  • Prepare materials, take attendance, ensure sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Conduct drills and maintain classroom order.
  • Uphold YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
  • Maintain confidentiality of child and family information.
  • Supervise children and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of school-age development.
  • Warm, nurturing personality; bilingual a plus.
  • Ability to work outdoors and with children with health or behavioral challenges.
  • Physical ability to supervise children, lift up to 40 lbs, and react quickly to safety issues.
Education & Experience

Options include: 3 credits in school-age/elementary education, or a degree plus current certification, or a high school diploma plus training.

At least 240 hours of supervised experience working with school-age children in a licensed program.
