Job summary

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the annual maintenance budget and capital plans.
• Reconcile invoices, payroll, and required documents in a timely manner.

• Ensure maintenance equipment is properly maintained.
• Procure supplies within budgetary limits.
• Record activities and costs; prepare periodic reports.
• Implement purchasing with preferred vendors where possible.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations.
• Ensure training and licenses are up to date; address environmental concerns.
• Stay current on agronomic information; oversee chemical/fertilizer mixing and application.
• Provide leadership, foster teamwork, and uphold ethical behavior.
• Develop, train, coach, and mentor staff; promote safe work practices.

Job description

The Rail Golf Course, located in Springfield, Illinois is seeking a qualified Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the maintenance and agronomy operations of our 18-hole facility. The Superintendent reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for all aspects of a successful golf course grounds operation.

• Prepare and maintain the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans.
• Reconcile and provide timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents.
• Plan, organize, and direct the maintenance of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers and irrigation system.
• Ensure that maintenance equipment is properly maintained.
• Procure supplies and materials within budgetary limitations.
• Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs; prepare reports.
• Implement sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.
• Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
• Ensure proper training and/or licenses are obtained to perform job tasks safely and within regulations; directly address environmental concerns.
• Stay current on agronomic information and oversee chemical and fertilizer mixing, calibration, and application.
• Provide leadership and foster teamwork, communication, ethical behavior, cleanliness, and a positive attitude.
• Develop, train, coach, discipline, and mentor staff.
• Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
• Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, and two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Pesticide license preferred.
